The Rat Inn
For a good sociable evening, either just chatting over a pint by the open fire or enjoying first class food you won’t have to go far to our only pub The Rat at Anick. The source of the pub’s name “The Rat” is uncertain, ranging from the inn being a meeting place for rat-catchers, to the home of the largest rat in Tynedale or a nickname for a previous landlord who “ratted” on Jacobite sympathisers who met there in the 18th centaury. None seem particularly likely as it is an old drover’s inn, buildt in 1750 which was called Board Inn in the 19th century.

It has recently been completely renovated by its owners Phil and Karen who are making a name for it as a pub with excellent grub!
